One of Cheshire's 'most considered and liveable family homes'

When the plot next door to Chris Oakes’ Alderley Edge home came on the market, the barrister and property developer jumped at the chance to totally remodel a house that had not only seen better days but was, in fact, in need of a total facelift.

Chris and his young family were living in their existing home on Chapel Lane in Alderley Edge when the neighbouring property and plot came up for sale.

“We had already restored and extended our own classic Alderley villa when the plot next door became available,” explains Chris. “I could see its potential straight away, even though the property itself was in a poor state of repair. It needed to be virtually re-built, which is what we did, enlarging it significantly at the same time.”

This (almost) brand new home – Chris and his team worked closely with planners and architects to save the original front façade – has since been described as ‘one of the most considered and liveable family homes ever seen’.

Indeed, Chris and his own young family liked the finished result so much they decided to sell up and move in next door to ‘road test’ the property.

Considerable space (some 6,800 square feet) at Westfield is matched only by incredible attention to detail, the quality of materials used throughout and its extremely  well-thought out and impressive features.

These include the open plan living floor with its unique blend of contemporary and traditional features and a 1,700 square foot leisure floor with its 8 metre pool, pool bar, lounging area, gym, changing room and fitted cinema.

The pool and lounge area themselves open out onto a sunken terrace which is perfect for parties and wouldn’t look out of place on the set of the latest Bond movie.

The property boasts six bedrooms and three bathrooms over its two spacious upper floors and it is set in mature, fully landscaped grounds in the heart of the village and just minutes walk from the centre of Alderley Edge and its shops, bars and restaurants.

Now one year on and its all change again for the Oakes’ family. Chris has hung up his wig for good to concentrate on proprety development full time and, for his wife and children, the lure of the open countryside and the promise of land for horses has led the family to invest in an old farmhouse on Macclesfield Road in Alderley Edge.

And this means, of course, that Westfield is looking for a new family to appreciate its unique charms, stunning architecture, substantial space and incredible finishes.
